“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.” ― Dalai Lama
Helen Keller inspires me. She was the first blind and deaf woman to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1904. I’m sure that there would have been moments in Helen’s life where she felt too small to make a difference. However, this did not stop her from sharing her wisdom with all of us. Helen published a total of twelve books and several articles. I wonder if she knew what her ‘purpose’ was when she was writing. This word is the reason that I have decided to start a blog. I’m determined to find out what my purpose is.
I think the first step for anyone to realise their life purpose is to think about all of the things that matter to them. In my view, the three most important things in life are as follows:
- The environment because without it we would cease to exist;
- Health because without it one cannot live; and
- Women. No further explanation is required.
The things that personally matter to me are my family, friends, kindness, human rights, nature, charities (Fred Hollows and White Ribbon), justice, books, writing and travel. All the above drives me, and makes me want to be a better person. What are the things that matter to you?
